Hello friends! Today I'm going to introduce my first Personal Learning Network. I decided to begin with the Design option so that I could become more aware with some creative tools on the internet. On the website that I chose ( mystorybook.com ), students and teachers can work together to create a storybook. You can use tools provided within the website to make your story come to life in a free, easy manner. I particularly enjoyed this tool because I thought it was really sweet that it is a free to use tool that can make the stories from a child's imagination come to life before them. This was something that really excited me as a child and that I hope will continue to excite me and my students as time goes on. There are many ways you can use this tool, but for my product I created an About Me type book. I thought this could have been a fun activity to use in a classroom for the beginning of the year when students are getting to know each other. I went through the book and adde...

Hello again, friends! It has been another great week in my EME2040 class. Today, I'll be talking about ELA Technology Standards, the CPALMS Educator Toolkit, and the skills I picked up when I wrote my Newsletter. Get ready, I'm about to throw a lot of info at you! So, the ELA Technology Standards tackle how teachers must incorporate technology and understanding of technology into their curriculum when it comes to teaching the English and Language Arts subjects. When I eventually end up getting my degree in Elementary Education, there are many standards which I will have to interact with. Personally, I hope to teach the younger grades, so I mainly focused on the standards created for younger elementary school classes. With that being said, I think that given my current experience within the classroom and my lack of degree in knowing how to actually teach English/Language Arts fully, I think I'm only really prepared to teach about the second grade and under. For example, in ...

Hello friends! Today I'll be talking about things like Microsoft Word and Technology Implementation Issues, as spoken about in class. First, Microsoft Word has always been a favorite tool of mine! Lately, I only ever really use the tool for writing essays and class assignments like that, yet when I was younger, I would always pretend like I was a teacher and make various teacher tools through word. I was honestly probably more fluent in Microsoft Word when I was like eight, as opposed to now at eighteen. 😂 I never actually have directly seen my teachers working on Microsoft Word or including a curriculum which requires us to be fluent in the tool, but I do know that a lot of teachers use it to create their own assignments, letters to home, or signs in the classroom. I went to a high school that had an Early Childhood Magnet Program, which meant that if you were part of the class, you got to observe and regularly teach in a preschool setting right on campus. I participated in thi...

Teachers and students are influenced to use technology in the classroom based on the changing influence of technology worldwide. Everyday, new innovations are created for the classroom and teachers and students are often the first to experience them because technology in today's society greatly helps to further education. With access to new technologies, students learn to become more technologically fluent. This will not only help students in class, but out of class in the real world as well. The ISTE standards were created to provide technological guidance and insight to five different demographics-- students, teachers, educational leaders, technology coaches, and computer science educators. The guidelines encourage success in each given group through pushing to gain knowledge in "communication, collaboration, and knowledge construction." One of the ISTE standards that is particularly meaningful to me is standard number 1 under the ISTE Standards for Educators. This ...
