Journal Four
Hello friends! It has been a great and informative week in our EME2040 class. I'm so excited to talk about some of the concepts, right now.
To begin, I'm just gonna talk a bit about good ol' twitter. I actually have my own personal twitter that I use outside of class that has been active since 2015. Like the nerd that I am, I started it to keep tabs on all my favorite celebrities, especially those in the then new Star Wars sequel trilogy. Twitter seemed to be the first place to gain the next big information for what was going on in Hollywood at the time, so I joined without any doubts. Now, I continue to form online bonds with other fans of the same things and people that I enjoy, as well as give updates to people from home through my page. Twitter could be helpful in my career because it could be an easy place for parents to be kept up to date in the classroom, especially with a special class twitter. It is also an easy and effective way for communication.
Going into another subject is the topic of digital divide. The digital divide in the classroom is the discrepancy posed between students who are fluent in technology and students who are not, and thus the difference in abilities that prevents children from actively being able to work with technology. When students are faced with the digital divide, their performance suffers greatly because of it, especially in classes which regularly employ technology in learning. Causes of the digital divide include class differences, general technological discomfort, and lack of exposure to technology. As a teacher, I hope to only include technology in context if students are comfortable with it, and hope to teach students to learn to become comfortable with it. I will only assign assignments that are appropriate according to the tools that children have at home.
There are several examples out there of appropriate academic software. I think the most common example is within Microsoft Office, which combines tools like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and has everything a student (and teachers) could ever need to be successful in class. I think it is so important for students to be affluent at using these skills because it will be important for use all throughout life, and for this reason, I truly hope to use this tool in my classes. Another software that I hope to incorporate into my future classroom is Adobe Creative Cloud, which includes access to tools like Photoshop, Illustrator and more. This can certainly come in handy when it comes to encouraging creativity in the classroom with the usage of tools like this one. Because it encourages creativity, I think it might be a great tool for use in the classroom.
That's all for this week, let me know what some of your favorite academic software are, I need to be informed so that I can teach to the best of my ability, especially in this tech heavy generation!
