Journal Seven

Hello fellow bloggers! This week was very interesting to learn outside of the classroom. It was very cool seeing what was happening over at the AECT conference in Las Vegas. This week, I will be talking about Twitter, Web Design and and assistive technologies within the classroom.
Firstly, I want to reflect on my experience using Twitter in our EME2040 class. I have a lot of history with Twitter, it is in fact my favorite social media site. This is, however, my first time using it in context with a class I am taking. I like how easily it connects me to my classmates, as well as other educators and experts in the educational technology field. I personally only used Twitter beforehand for recreation, so it is fun to actually use it as a means of connection with other people on the same path as I am. I have learned so much from the stuff that other people post and recommend and I haven't found any problems in our usage of it yet. I would still like to participate in a Twitter Chat one day!
I also had the pleasure of creating a website for this class. This is actually my second website that I have ever made, but I was especially excited about this project because I got to make a website in an imitation of what a may do and use in the future. I found it to be very refreshing and fun, and it challenged me just enough to where I enjoyed creating the tool. I think I can definitely improve it next time by maybe finding a more organized way to store my links on their own page. I think that was probably the hardest part. Also, it was a bit hard to find a way to have links back to every page so that provided an interesting challenge to me. I think that as long as administration allows me, I will try and keep a website for my classroom. I think it is a very fun, current, organized way to keep everyone up to date.

Finally, we learned a bit about assistive and adaptive technologies. These are tools that help those with specific special needs be more successful in their everyday lives, no matter how big or small. I have never known anyone who has used these tools, which brings me to my first issue that educators may have in using these tools in the classroom. If teachers are not educated enough on how to try their best to help students adapt as best as possible, then they may hinder the child more than help. Teachers should be very aware of each tool and how to use them in order to use them effectively.
That is all I have for this week, talk to you all soon! Emily Creative Commons License
