Journal Nine
Hello friends! This week I will talk about "The Flipped Classroom," open educational resources, and some of the skills I gained from my PowerPoint project.
In class, we briefly discussed a flipped classroom, where a lot of learning in the classroom is focused not only in class but out of class as well. Before class, students do their own research into class concepts to introduce them into the knowledge they need for actual class. They take notes and note their questions for discussion in class. When they finally get to class, instead of engaging in lectures and teaching, students participate in activities like group discussions and one-to-one interactions with teachers and apply the concepts that taught themselves at home. Finally, after class, students continue to process and check their understanding and proving their knowledge through application and evaluation.
In addition, we touched on open educational resources (OER). OERs are resources that anyone can use freely in an online environment. One of my favorite examples of this is through the online website Khan Academy. This website provides online lessons and trainings in almost every subject and every grade to help those in the classroom learn from the online environment. I personally used this skill a lot when studying to take the SAT, and it helped a lot with my understanding and practice.
Finally, when creating my PowerPoint for a lesson that I would have given in my class, I gained a lot of skills I have not used before. For one, I did not know how to create my own slide format so that was exciting! I also did not know how to add an online video onto a PowerPoint and I got to teach myself that, which I am sure will be really useful in the future. I also learned how to add slide notes and record narration for the presentation, which is something I have never done before. Overall, I really loved this assignment because PowerPoint is genuinely one of my favorite tools in the world. I am pretty psyched with the outcome of my PowerPoint, I think it looks great!
That's all for this week, EME2040 friends! Till next time!
